About Blue Water
Doula Collective

This work began with listening.

To families standing at thresholds they never expected to face alone.

To caregivers quietly carrying more than they could hold.

To doulas who felt called to serve, yet unsupported in their own becoming.

Over time, a clear truth emerged.

The gaps in care were not about skill.

They were about presence.

The experience that shaped the Collective

Blue Water Doula Collective was born from lived experience.

At her father’s bedside, Jen Willoughby saw how moments that matter can be missed. It was not a lack of care, but a lack of preparation and presence.

Medical support was there. But emotional guidance, clear communication, and steady support were not. In the years that followed, similar patterns appeared across both ends of life — in birth and in dying.

Moments that called for intention were often rushed or left unsupported.

The Collective began from that experience.

What the Collective is
— and is not

Blue Water Doula Collective is a collaborative network of trained doulas supporting families across birth, caregiving, end-of-life, and grief.

It is more than a referral list or a group of independent providers. It is a structured, mentored model of care, where doulas are supported, and families experience continuity and shared wisdom.

We do not replace medical or hospice care.

We simply walk alongside, offering presence, gentle preparation, and clear communication.

What we believe

This work is guided by a few core truths:

Presence matters

  • A steady, grounded presence can change how moments are experienced.

Preparation is an act of love

  • Conversations held early create clarity when it matters most.

Dignity belongs to everyone

  • Each person deserves to move through life’s transitions with respect and choice.

A shared work

The Collective began with Jen’s vision, and has been shaped by those who have stepped in to carry it forward.

From its beginning, this work has been sustained by shared stewardship. Doulas, leaders, and community members offer their time, care, and commitment, weaving together a network of support that no one holds alone. The Collective continues in that spirit, guided by community insight and a shared desire to offer steady, compassionate care.
