You care deeply about families, about thresholds, about being present in the moments that matter most. And yet, in the day-to-day, you may find yourself navigating:
Complex and tender emotional landscapes
Boundaries that feel blurry or hard to maintain
A sense of doing this work alone, without a true team around you

The Collective exists to change that.
The Collective exists to change that.
Why this model existsWhy this model existsMost doulas are trained and then released into independent practice. And while that independence matters, this work often calls for connection and support along the way.
The Collective offers:
Shared wisdom
Drawing from many doulas’ experiences, not just your own
Mutual support
A place where you can both receive and offer care
Ongoing formation
Support that continues beyond a single training
Protective structure
Boundaries and frameworks that help safeguard both doulas and the families they serve
What you’ll find in the Collective-
Steady, experienced support as you find your footing and grow your practice
-
Teaching and conversation that stays close to real, lived work with families
-
Opportunities for training and continued formation, grounded in ethical, relational, and clinically aware care.
-
A place to bring the hard, complex, and beautiful situations you’re holding
-
Colleagues who understand this work from the inside
-
Support in navigating what is yours to carry and what is not
-
Practices and boundaries that protect both you and the families you serve
Part of something largerWithin the Collective, doulas are part of a broader model of care — one that supports families across birth, caregiving, end-of-life, and grief.
At the same time, this work reaches beyond individual moments. It is part of a larger shift in how people begin to think about, prepare for, and move through these transitions within their families and communities.
This wider frame creates:
Continuity – families are supported across transitions, rather than feeling left to navigate them alone.
Collaboration – doulas, caregivers, and community providers working alongside one another with shared understanding.
Depth – space for the long arc of relationship — not just a single moment of support, but ongoing presence and care.
Over time, this work helps shape a different way forward —
one where preparation becomes more natural, conversations happen earlier, and support is more connected.
Your work as a doula becomes part of that larger tapestry of care.
-
You feel called to this work and want guidance, structure, and confidence as you begin. You may be wondering what it looks like to move from “training” into real practice in a way that feels held and ethical.
-
You are already supporting families and are seeking collaboration, reflection, and ongoing support, rather than carrying the work on your own.
-
You are curious about how to bridge birth and end-of-life care within a more integrated model. You sense that these thresholds are connected — and you want a thoughtful, grounded way to step into that work.
-
If you are already practicing, you bring lived experience, insight, and established ways of working. The Collective is designed to honor that and provide space for continued growth and support.
The Collective is rooted in collaborative practice. You remain grounded in your own identity, voice, and practice while contributing to a culture of shared wisdom and support.
Within this model, you’re supported through:
Peer consultation for complex, layered, or ethically challenging situations
Opportunities to both receive and offer perspective – your experience matters here
Ongoing learning shaped by real practice – not abstract theory, but what you are actually facing with families
We are committed to providing a structure that supports both the work and the person doing it.
Where you might be in your journey:
Pathways for DoulasBeyond the Blue Water RegionBlue Water Doula Collective is rooted in Michigan’s Blue Water region — a term commonly used throughout St. Clair County and surrounding communities.
In practice, our work extends across the Thumb and the eastern side of the state, reflecting the relationships and communities we serve. At the same time, we know these needs are not limited by geography.
We are continuing to grow — offering education, mentorship, and resources that extend beyond our immediate area. You do not need to live locally to begin a conversation.
For doulas outside the region, engagement may look different than local, in-person membership.
This may include:
Participation in education and training
Access to mentorship and guidance
Connection to a broader network of doulas
Opportunities to grow within a shared model of care
As the Collective expands, we are continuing to thoughtfully shape how this work can extend while maintaining the integrity, presence, and relational nature at its core.
