Finding Your Voice as a Doula
Clarity, Confidence, and Presence
A BWDC Resource for Workshops & Community Outreach
Toastmasters offers a supportive, structured environment where doulas can strengthen their voice, presence, and confidence when speaking in front of others—whether leading workshops, facilitating circles, or engaging in community outreach.
For many doulas, the work is deeply intuitive and relational. Translating that presence into clear, grounded communication in group settings can feel like a different skill set. Toastmasters provides a bridge between the two—helping you articulate your work with clarity while staying rooted in your authentic voice.
Doulas are often called to:
Lead educational workshops (advance care planning, birth prep, grief support)
Speak at community events or panels
Facilitate circles, trainings, or support groups
Share their services with confidence and integrity
Through regular practice, Toastmasters helps you:
Speak with clarity and intention about your role and scope
Hold grounded presence while being seen and heard
Navigate nervousness or self-doubt in public settings
Offer structured, meaningful presentations without losing authenticity
Getting Started
Attend a local Toastmasters meeting as a guest (no commitment required)
Observe the structure and notice what resonates
Begin participating at your own pace
Integrate what you learn into your offerings, and outreach efforts
Local Toastmasters Opportunities for Doulas
Doulas looking to build confidence in public speaking, workshop facilitation, and community outreach can explore two supportive Toastmasters International club options:
Port Huron Club (In-Person)
Meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday from 12:00–1:15 PM at the Port Huron Municipal Office Building (Conference Room #408). This long-standing club offers a consistent, local space to practice speaking and connect with others in a structured, encouraging environment.

Northeastern Club (Online Option)
Meets the 2nd and 4th Monday at 6:45 PM via Zoom, with optional in-person affiliation in Harper Woods. Open to all, this flexible option allows doulas to participate from home while developing communication skills at their own pace.
Both options provide a welcoming space to strengthen your voice, refine your message, and step more confidently into community leadership and outreach.
