Finding Your Voice as a Doula

Clarity, Confidence, and Presence

A BWDC Resource for Workshops & Community Outreach

Toastmasters offers a supportive, structured environment where doulas can strengthen their voice, presence, and confidence when speaking in front of others—whether leading workshops, facilitating circles, or engaging in community outreach.

For many doulas, the work is deeply intuitive and relational. Translating that presence into clear, grounded communication in group settings can feel like a different skill set. Toastmasters provides a bridge between the two—helping you articulate your work with clarity while staying rooted in your authentic voice.

Doulas are often called to:

  • Lead educational workshops (advance care planning, birth prep, grief support)

  • Speak at community events or panels

  • Facilitate circles, trainings, or support groups

  • Share their services with confidence and integrity

Through regular practice, Toastmasters helps you:

  • Speak with clarity and intention about your role and scope

  • Hold grounded presence while being seen and heard

  • Navigate nervousness or self-doubt in public settings

  • Offer structured, meaningful presentations without losing authenticity

Getting Started

  • Attend a local Toastmasters meeting as a guest (no commitment required)

  • Observe the structure and notice what resonates

  • Begin participating at your own pace

  • Integrate what you learn into your offerings, and outreach efforts

Local Toastmasters Opportunities for Doulas

Doulas looking to build confidence in public speaking, workshop facilitation, and community outreach can explore two supportive Toastmasters International club options:

Northeastern Club (Online Option)
